The Thai visamedical certificate
Thailand does not use the IHR 2005 framework. It names five conditions in law, and the certificate confirms you are free of all of them.
The requirement comes from Ministerial Regulation No. 14 (B.E. 2535). The Royal Thai Embassy publishes its own form, which the doctor completes, signs and stamps, and which also asks for confirmation of good physical and mental health.
Two procedural differences from the European routes: the certificate must be issued in the country where you submit your application, and Thailand requires notarisation rather than a Hague apostille.

- Issue in the country of application — the United Kingdom, if applying in London
- Notarisation by a notary or by the diplomatic or consular mission
- Some Thai consulates additionally request a syphilis blood test or chest X-ray. Requirements vary, so please confirm with the consulate handling your application.

What happens next
Thailand asks for notarisation by a notary public or the diplomatic mission rather than a Hague apostille. Your certificate is then lodged with your O-A or O-X application at the Royal Thai Embassy, alongside your insurance certificate and criminal record check.
Thailand is narrower than the European destinations. The certificate belongs to the extended-stay categories, chiefly the retirement routes open to applicants aged 50 and over. Holidaymakers and anyone entering visa-exempt are not asked for one.

Which conditions does the Thai certificate cover?

Can I use a UK certificate for a Thai work permit?
No. Thai work permit medicals must be carried out by a hospital or clinic inside Thailand. A UK-issued certificate is suitable for visa applications submitted in the United Kingdom, not for the work permit stage.
Does Thailand need an apostille?
Thailand asks for notarisation by a notary or by the diplomatic or consular mission, rather than a Hague Apostille in the way Spain does. Confirm the exact requirement with the consulate handling your application.
How long is the Thai certificate valid?
Three months from the date of issue, and it must be issued in the country where you submit your visa application — so a UK certificate is correct if you are applying at the Royal Thai Embassy in London.
Will I need a blood test or chest X-ray?
Some Thai consulates request a syphilis blood test or chest X-ray to support the certificate, and requirements vary between posts. Check with the consulate handling your application, and send us any results they ask for.
Which Thai visas need one?
