The Greek Long Stay D Visamedical certificate
Greece asks for more than most destinations. The certificate must confirm freedom from diseases posing a public health risk under WHO standards and the EU acquis — supported by evidence on tuberculosis and syphilis.
The requirement comes from Law 4251/2014. Where Spain accepts a declaration drawn from medical history, Greece expects test results, and specifies its own certificate form rather than accepting a letter.
Two procedural points worth knowing early: applicants normally attend the Consulate in person for an interview, and UK applications are lodged through Global Visa Center World rather than at the Embassy.
What Greece requires, and what we ask of you
Two test results are needed before your certificate can be issued, so please read this before ordering.

What happens next
Greek national visa applicants normally attend the Consulate in person for an interview, and UK applications are lodged through Global Visa Center World. Ask the Consulate whether apostille legalisation is also required, as practice varies between posts.
That single classification decides it. Greek Type D visas cover stays from three months up to a year, and every one of them calls for a medical certificate. Visitors arriving under Schengen rules for a shorter period need nothing from a doctor.
Unsure whether your application counts as Type D? Most long-stay Greek permits do. Tell us what you have applied for and we will confirm it before you pay for anything. Check with us

So simple and efficient. I wish I arrived here before my own Doctor. I wasted a month with my Doctor and got nowhere.
Really impressed. The process was quick and hassle free. The certificate was exactly what I needed and how I needed it. Their customer service is great with quick response time.
Super quick and easy! I cannot recommend The Healthify enough and I am immensely grateful that they made the medical certificate process 100% stress free!
Greecequestions answered
Why does Greece require tests when Spain does not?
Greek law asks the certificate to address other infectious, contagious and parasitic diseases in addition to the general public health standard. In practice this means supporting evidence on tuberculosis and syphilis. Greece also specifies its own certificate form rather than accepting a general letter.
What TB evidence do you accept?
Either proof of BCG vaccination — a record in your notes or a clear photograph of the scar on your upper arm — or, if you have never been vaccinated, a recent chest X-ray report confirming you are clear of tuberculosis.
Where can I get the syphilis blood test?
Through your own GP, an NHS sexual health clinic, or a private laboratory. Private tests are widely available and usually return within a few days.
How far in advance should I order?
Allow four to six weeks before your consulate appointment. Arranging the test results is the step that most affects your timeline, and the Consulate generally expects documents dated within one month of submission.
Do I need to attend the Consulate in person?
Applicants for a Greek national visa are normally required to attend in person for an interview about the purpose of their stay. UK applications are submitted through Global Visa Center World rather than at the Embassy directly.
Does the certificate also confirm fitness to work?
Where your application is for a work visa, the certificate normally confirms fitness to work as well. Tell us your visa category when you order so the correct wording is used.
Can I still get a certificate with an existing condition?
In almost all cases, yes. The certificate addresses specific listed conditions rather than your general health. Ongoing conditions and regular medication are common among applicants.
