Which Thailand visas require
a medical certificate?
UK nationals aged 50 or over applying for Thailand’s retirement-class visa from the UK must include a medical certificate as part of their embassy application package.
Non-Immigrant OA (Retirement)
The standard one-year retirement visa applied for at the Thai Embassy in London. A medical certificate is a mandatory document in the application pack.
Non-Immigrant OX (5-Year)
Thailand’s five-year long-stay visa for retirees. Also requires a medical certificate submitted with the application at the Thai Embassy.
Annual Visa Renewal
Some applicants renewing their retirement visa status at Thai immigration offices may also need a fresh medical certificate — valid for 3 months from issue.

Requirements can vary between Thai consular posts. The Thai Embassy in London typically accepts a GP-signed certificate for the OA application from outside Thailand. However, some posts may additionally request a syphilis blood test or chest X-ray. We always advise confirming with the Thai Embassy London before ordering. What the Thai Embassy requires in your certificate
Under Ministerial Regulation No. 14 (B.E. 2535), the medical certificate must confirm you are free from eight specific prohibited conditions. Our certificate covers all of them.

The certificate must be issued by a registered medical practitioner. Our FCDO-registered GPs are GMC-listed and their signatures are pre-verified with the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.

Under Thai immigration law, the certificate must confirm you do not suffer from: leprosy, tuberculosis (active), drug addiction, alcoholism (third stage), elephantiasis, syphilis (third stage), mental illness, or other specified infectious diseases.

Do I need a blood test or chest X-ray?
For the standard Non-OA retirement visa application at the Thai Embassy in London, a questionnaire-based GP certificate is typically accepted without a blood test or X-ray. However, requirements can vary by consulate and some posts do request additional testing. We strongly recommend confirming with the Thai Embassy before ordering. Our certificate meets all standard requirements.
What age do I need to be to apply?
You must be at least 50 years old on the date you submit your retirement visa application. There is no upper age limit. The UK is on Thailand’s list of eligible nationalities for the Non-OA retirement visa.
How long is the certificate valid?
The certificate must not be older than 3 months at the time of your visa application submission. Order it close to your intended submission date to avoid it expiring before you apply.
Can I get the certificate if I have a managed health condition?
Many managed health conditions do not prevent issuance of the certificate. The GP’s assessment focuses specifically on the eight prohibited conditions listed under Thai immigration law. Conditions like well-controlled diabetes, hypertension, or arthritis are generally not a barrier. If in doubt, our GP will contact you to discuss before issuing.
