Who Needs It
Which UK workers in France need an OFII certificate?
Under Article L.5221-2 of the French Labour Code, all non-EU nationals (including UK citizens post-Brexit) working in France for more than 90 days must hold an OFII medical certificate before starting work.
Ski Seasonaires
UK workers in the French Alps (Chamonix, Méribel, Val d’Isère, Courchevel) for the winter or summer season. One of the largest groups affected post-Brexit.
Salaried Employees
UK nationals taking up permanent or fixed-term employment contracts with a French employer under a “Salarié” work visa.
Service Providers
UK contractors and self-employed professionals posted to France (“Prestataire de services”) for projects lasting more than 90 days.
Artists & Creatives
UK musicians, performers, and artists working in France on longer-term engagements or residencies requiring a work authorisation.
Teaching & Research
UK academics, teachers, and researchers employed by French institutions, universities, or research organisations for extended periods.
Trade & Construction
UK tradespeople and construction workers on longer French projects. OFII certificate required as part of the posted worker or work permit process.
What's Different vs Spain/Greece
How the France certificate works differently
This certificate is distinct from the Spain and Greece visa certificates. Here’s what you need to understand before ordering.
No apostille required for this certificate
UK academics, teachers, and researchers employed by French institutions, universities, or research organisations for extended periods.
No apostille required for this certificate
UK academics, teachers, and researchers employed by French institutions, universities, or research organisations for extended periods.
1
Required Under French Labour Code
Article L.5221-2 of the Code du Travail mandates a medical fitness certificate for all non-EU workers entering France for employment. Failure to provide it can prevent your work authorisation being granted.
2
Signed by an FCDO-Registered UK GP
The certificate must be signed by a UK doctor registered with the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. Their signature is pre-verified, which meets French immigration standards.
3
Includes the Official OFII Medical Form
We provide the signed OFII certificate (Certificat d’aptitude au travail) alongside the standard IHR 2005 health certificate — both signed and stamped, ready to post to OFII.
4
Valid for 180 Days
Your certificate is valid for 180 days (6 months) from the date of issue — significantly longer than the Spain/Greece 90-day window. The OFII integration certificate remains valid for up to 3 years.
5
Covers All Employment Categories
Whether you’re a salaried employee, seasonal worker, posted contractor, or working in hospitality, tourism, or the arts — if you’re working in France for more than 90 days, this certificate applies to you.

FAQs
France OFII certificate FAQs
Why do UK citizens now need this certificate post-Brexit?
Before Brexit, UK citizens had EU free movement rights and were exempt from work permit requirements. Since January 2021, UK nationals are third-country nationals and must comply with French labour law, which requires all non-EU employees to hold an OFII medical certificate before working in France for more than 90 days.
Does this certificate require apostille legalisation?
No — unlike the Spain and Greece certificates, the France OFII certificate does not need to be apostilled. You submit it directly to your employer and to the OFII office. This makes it quicker and simpler to process than the other destination certificates we offer.
What happens if I don't have the certificate before starting work?
Your French employer cannot legally employ you without the certificate — it’s a condition of your work permit being valid. Without it, your work authorisation can be refused or revoked. Your employer also faces penalties under the French Labour Code for employing you without it.
Can I still get the certificate if I'm already in France?
Yes. We can issue your certificate regardless of where you currently are. We’ll send the original signed documents to your UK address (or the address of your choice) via Royal Mail Tracked 24, and provide a same-day PDF you can use immediately.
Is this the same as the OFII medical examination done in France?
No — those are two separate things. For some VLS-TS (long-stay) visa holders, OFII arranges a health visit after arrival in France. Our certificate is the pre-departure UK medical certificate required under French Labour Law as part of your work permit application — signed in the UK before you travel.
